A Solar Powered Bird Bath is a Reliable Water Source for Wild Birds
I use a solar powered bird bath which uses solar power to operate a light that operates when it is dark. This creates a beautiful garden accent.
There are basically two styles of solar powered bird baths. One style has solar panels built into the bird bath itself. The other style has solar panels that are apart from the bird bath, but connected to it with a cord. The location of your solar powered bird bath will depend on the style of bird bath you use. A bird bath with integrated solar panels will have to be placed in the sun. A bird bath with separate panels can be used in shade, if the panels are placed in the sunshine.
If you can not locate a solar powered bird bath heater, you can use an electric bird bath heater in your bird bath. An electric bird bath heater attaches to your home's electricity to keep the water in the bird bath warm. I have found drawbacks to using an electric bird bath heater to warm your bird bath water. First, you have to place the heated bird bath near your house so it can reach an electrical outlet. Second, you will have to use an unsightly and maybe even unsafe electrical cord in your yard. Using electricity also costs more than solar power, and using a electrical cord may not be the best thing to do for animals and your family.
With a little effort you can find a solar powered solution that will pay off for you in the end. You get to enjoy an attractive bird bath
without unsightly electric cords and the wild birds in your yard will have a fresh water source all throughout the year. A dependable water
source for wild birds improves their chances for survival and even produces more lovely birds for the next year. Choose a solar powered bird
bath to attract more wild birds, and to teach your children about environmental responsibility. When you don't need an electrical cord you
have more choices as to where you place your bird bath in your yard.
